If you keep up with current music news at all, you’re probably aware of the beef between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. But what exactly sparked the fire between the two divas? In an interview with W, Cardi laid it bare.
The Latest Altercation
The latest incident between the two happened at New York Fashion Week’s annual Harper’s Bazaar Icons party last month. Cardi B was seen yelling, throwing a shoe and even trying to charge Minaj before being restrained.
Minaj took her grievances to her Beats 1 “Queen Radio” show afterward.
“You’re angry and you’re sad. This is not funny,” Minaj said of Cardi B. “Get this woman some f**ing help. This woman’s at the highest point in her career and she’s throwing shoes?”
Cardi told W that the issue has been ongoing and she’s tried to responsibly put an end to it without much luck.
“For a while now she’s been taking a lot of shots at me,” Cardi said of Minaj. “I spoke to her twice before, and we came to an understanding. But she kept it going.”
The straw that broke the camel’s back at the Harper’s party was Minaj liking a tweet that was critical of Cardi’s mother skills (she later unliked the tweet).
“I was going to make millions off my Bruno Mars tour, and I sacrified that to stay with my daughter,” said Cardi. “I love my daughter. I’m a good-ass f**ing mom.”
“So for somebody that don’t have a child to like that comment,” she continued. “So many people want to say that party wasn’t the time or the place, but I’m not going to catch another artist in the grocery store or down the block.”
On Relationships and Motherhood
Cardi admits that her pregnancy was not planned and that her husband, Offset, assured her that her career would be fine after having a baby. Offset has three children with three other women and the two rappers married secretly months before he publicly proposed onstage during one of her performances.
The constant rumors around Offset’s infidelity is a struggle for Cardi. “Every single day there’s rumors about me and my dude and it almost drives me crazy, because I start to believe them. I don’t have no proof. I don’t have receipts,” she said.
Cardi got some advice from another person who lives in the spotlight, however. Kris Jenner explained to Cardi how to handle the haters.
“Kris told me, ‘People are going to talk badly about you, but it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re making money. And it’s true. If you read the online comments, it seems like everybody hates the Kardashians. Each and every one of them. But how can that be true if everything they sell sells out?”
How, indeed, Cardi.
