TMZ is reporting that Colin Kaepernick’s attorney, Mark Geragos, teased the possibility of the ousted NFL player returning to play in the NFL.
Geragos hinted that two NFL teams could be looking to sign the out-of-work quarterback. He hinted that the Oakland Raiders and the New England Patriots could both be eyeing Kaepernick.
“I would just say, ‘stay tuned’ … that next week there may be some news,” he said to the paparazzi.
Geragos also said that Kaep and his girlfriend Nessa are not boycotting the league – they are watching the NFL and supporting players like Kenny Stills, who continue to kneel during the national anthem.
The return of Colin Kaepernick to the NFL would potentially solidify the partisan divide taking place in the league. The flag kneeling controversy has taken on a life of its own thanks to criticism from Donald Trump and constant coverage by Fox News. The NFL is already facing boycotts from Trump supporters around the country… With their viewership already declining in recent years, it is hard to quantify the effectiveness of the boycotts.
Kaepernick has accused the NFL of collusion to keep him from being signed by any teams. It was a claim that the NFL did not seem to take seriously until a judge authorized the case to move forward. As a result, news that teams are now eyeing the quarterback is not really surprising.
The Nike Deal
The recent announcement from Nike that Kaepernick would be the face of its 30th “Just Do It” campaign was a massive show of support. In the demographic that Nike appeals most to: college-aged city-living kids, reaction has been extremely positive.
The boomers and Trump supporters announced Nike boycotts which were mocked by the majority of social media users.
And speaking of the Nike deal, Geragos also confirmed that Kaepernick would be getting his own shoe line.
