Julie Chen, Wife of Disgraced Les Moonves, is Leaving CBS’ The Talk

Just one week after Les Moonves stepped down a chief executive of the CBS network, his wife Julie Chen is leaving her daytime CBS show, The Talk.

Les Moonves Allegations

The now-disgraced executive has faced 12 allegations of sexual harassment in recent months. The first six accusers said that between the 1980s and late aughts, Moonves sexually harassed them through either forcible touching or kissing between business meetings or harming their careers if they rejected his advances.

At the time, CBS stood with Moonves’ denial of the allegations, but the pressure was on. The New Yorker expose by Ronan Farrow gave the victims a voice and shed a light on CBS’s alleged dealings with workplace harassment – which included promoting men who had been accused and paying off women who made the allegations.

“The company is shielding lots of bad behavior,” said one veteran producer to Farrow.

Another expose by Farrow on September 9 with six more women alleging sexual harassment against Moonves seemed to force CBS’ hand. It was announced mere hours after the publication that Moonves would step down and would not receive exit compensation pending the results of an investigation.

Julie Chen’s Support

Chen, who has been married to Moonves since 2004, publicly stood by her husband after the first round of allegations.

“Leslie is a good man and a loving father, devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader. He hasalways been a kind, decent and moral human being,” she said. “I fully support my husband and stand behind him.”

Insiders are saying that Chen would be exiting her co-hosting duties on The Talk. She did not appear on Monday’s program and news outlets are reporting that she will not make another appearance in order to avoid awkward interactions with her co-hosts.

Chen did, however, appear as usual to host the Big Brother reality program. Interestingly, she signed off that night as “Julie Chen Moonves” instead of just “Julie Chen” as she always has. It appears to confirm other outlet reports that Chen will stand by her husband and that rumors of her leaving him are unfounded.
