Do you still have the furniture from your first apartment? Can you cook a meal for 2 in your kitchen? We’re running down a list of the essentials for every man over 40 to own…and the things that he should throw out right now.
How many of these essentials have you mastered?
21. Yes: A Cast-Iron Skillet
A cast-iron skillet is a kitchen essential. You can take it from stovetop to oven, sear the perfect steak, or even whip up a deep-dish pizza. Maintaining the seasoning—the protective oil that stops the iron from rusting—takes a little work, but it’s worth it.
20. No: A Velcro Wallet
In your 20s, you can get away with carrying a Velcro wallet with pictures of the Ninja Turtles on it. But now that you’re a grown man over 40, you should keep your cash and cards in something better. Go for real leather (or high-end canvas, if you don’t use animal products) and treat your money with respect.
